I got quite a few questions regarding the faces. "Is the painting done?" Was the primary question. Yes, the painting is finished. I purposely made the faces blank. First, we dont know how Mary looked exactly. Second, I think its important that the view be allowed to project the faces and features of this piece. Each of us will have a different picture in our mind of Mary. Also, if the faces are blank, it allows the painting to have more expression. You can see what you need to see. Do you need comfort? Then maybe her expression is compassionate to you.

Artists Volunteer Oppertunity - Junkyard Memphis

The primary purpose of The JunkYard is to engage the efforts of local artists and art students in the construction of their own museum. Once open, the exhibits will feature large climbable structures that can be enjoyed by everyone of all ages. This tactile nature of the new museum will be a useful learning tool for kids of all ages, as well as a method for creating an emotional link with adults and their city.

But before we get started on our exhibits, there is work to be done, and I need your help.


What: Clean up day at the Maintenance Building

When: May 9th (possibly 10th) starting at 10am and lasting until we are done (or 4 o'clock, whichever comes first)

Where: The maintenance building next to the Marine Hospital and the Ornamental Metal Museum

Why? To make the grounds a place for families to enjoy, to get the maintenance building to a usable state

May 9th and 10th we will be meeting at the Marine Hospital maintenance building at 10am. for a clean up day. This will include clean up of the grounds and the floor of the maintenance building. Below is a list of things we could use, and if you have suggestions or I have forgotten something, shout it out! We will be concentrating on the grounds and the floor specifically. The floor is peeling, and the peeling paint needs to be scraped. It is NOT lead paint.

Bring:
Gloves
Mask
Pressure washer
Trash bags
Tools for scraping, sanding
Brooms
Dust pans
Rakes

Please let me know if you will be able to help during our first volunteer opportunity. It may not seem like much, but it has to be done in order for us to move forward. If your kids are joining you, let me know that as well!

Gail Wilkins - Stirring Guest artist for May

Local artist Gail Wilkins will be the guest artist during May at The Stirring. Please join us for worship and watch Gail Wilkins, as she creates original artwork during the service.

Gail is one of the many artists participating in our art show - “Impressions of the Cross”. It is currently on display till June 7th. The total of over 140 cross-themed works reflect the many different interpretations and perspectives of the cross that each of us has.

Staff at the Resurrection Catholic Church recorded me working on a 3'x4' painting of the Mary and child. I think they couldn't record the sound so they add music to it later. Pretty neat.

Artist Richard Fudge will talk about how creating or viewing art can serve as a way to glorify God. Fudge frequently paints during worship services at his church, Hope Presbyterian, and is participating in "Impressions of the Cross," a group art exhibit at Hope featuring local artists' personal artistic interpretations of the cross.

"The Savior and the Thief" painted live on Maundy Thursday at The Stirring. The painting is 2ft x 4ft (24"x48"), acrylic/mixed media, and on 3/4" wrap canvas. Estimated retail value is $350-400. Proceeds to benefit The Stirring arts ministry (we need a new easel that's about $200.)

Opening bid is $40 and bidding should be in increments of $10. To place bid, you must leave a comment beginning with your amount on beneath the photo on my Facebook page. Buyer must be able to pick up painting from Hope Church or my studio (no shipping available). Auction to end on Sunday May 10th at noon. Payment due on May 10th in full and painting can be picked up that Sunday at the Stirring (5:30pm).
